On April 13 the BFUHS Band and Chorus performed with a vibrant selection of music at the school auditorium.  In an interview for The Howler, BFUHS band director Mr. Pelton confirmed the band has “absolutely” improved since the band concert in the winter and “worked hard right up to the finish line.”  The most exciting piece by far was Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli. Named after the volcano, Mount Vesuvius, Frank Ticheli wanted to compose a piece that was fiery and explosive.  When choosing the pieces Mr. Pelton wanted four different time periods that challenged the musicians and played to their strengths. This concert was very important to the seniors as it was their last major concert performance.  Ira Richardson was featured in Stars and Stripes on flute, Ali Fox had a senior solo on clarinet in Rondo For Solo and Wind Band, and a quartet of Caleb White, Ellie Guyon, Jackson Purdy, and Poe Terena playing Contrapunctus 1 from The Art of Fugue. During the Jazz band performance, featured seniors Paulryan Chipman sang in All the Things You Are, and Dylan Chambers soloed on Tenor Saxophone in My One and Only Love. Everyone worked very hard to create such a great performance. Commenting on the performance and the pieces played, Mr. Pelton said “A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.” His response is a clear reflection of the inspiring performance of so many difficult pieces by the BFUHS musicians.
