On Friday, December Fifteenth, Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, premiered across America to countless eagerly waiting fans. Since the news that a new trilogy would grace the screens of theatres, Star Wars fans, young and old, have been anxiously anticipating the story to follow.

After Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was released in 2015, the hype for the eighth installment of the series only grew. Left with an unbearable cliff hanger and the death of beloved and heroic smuggler, Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford), fans could barely survive the two year wait until all their questions would be answered – luckily, they had Rogue One, A Star Wars Story to tide them over until the release.

With positive reviews blowing up internet blogs, channels, and social media feeds, the movie delivered the awe-inspiring action it had promised. The cinematography and animation was immaculate in the film, and Director Rian Johnson was graciously praised for his numerous parallels to the original star wars trilogy, episodes IV – VI.

Opening in the midsts of a galactic battle between the last of the resistance and the large and terror instilling First Order, the movie began with an exciting action packed introduction. The heart’s of all viewers skipped a beat when Princess Leia Organa (played by Carrie Fisher), leader of the Resistance, first appeared on screen. On December Twenty Seventh, 2016, Carrie Fisher tragically passed away, at the age of sixty, from a sudden and unexpected heart attack. Mourned around the world by family and fans, many questions were posed regarding the characters continuance in the star wars saga for episodes VIII and IX. Luckily, Fisher had already completed her filming for The Last Jedi, but fans will have to watch the next new film to find out the franchise’s plan for her potential role, if any, in the next episode.

One of the most thought-raising questions that fans lost sleep over after The Force Awakens was released, was who were Rey’s (played by Daisy Ridley) parents? This question is one of the main themes of the new movie, a constant thought and fear that drives Rey in her mission to earn the help of the last jedi. Although the matter appears to have been resolved, many are skeptical of the truth in the revelation, and if there is more to the story that will be addressed in episode IX.

Fans were pleased to see more of Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill), in the new film, and were surprised with the extent to which he had been able to develop his knowledge of the force. Skywalker’s appearance led to the discovery of the truth behind Ben Solo, or Kylo Ren’s (played by Adam Driver) shift to the dark side of the force, under the leadership of Supreme Leader Snoke. Driver’s performance was one of the highlights of the movie, drawing viewers into a confusing web between good and evil, and making them question the foundation of the franchises classic villain.

The new movie was an astounding success, although it will never live up to the first three movies, episodes IV-VI, created by George Lucas. Fans have high hopes for the next film, hoping their dozens of unanswered questions will at long last be addressed.
